I’ve been working with a lovely Lady Coral VanDyk who does a lot of charity work, she stitches out and sells busy bags and finger puppets in order to raise enough money to buy fleece to make blankies and teddies for foster kids in her small home town.
She was telling me that she makes 2 teddies and blankies every day, that’s an awful lot of fleece.
Coral has been doing a lot of testing and taking photos of my new designs, and if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or you want some of my designs stitched out, contact Coral on her facebook page,
I know I haven’t quite finished the pirate pages yet, but I just had to get started on the farm pages.
It’s funny how my brain works, I can leave something for a bit, and then get more great ideas for activities and pages, so I have left 2 of the pirate pages for a few days, I am sure more inspiration will come.
I have started working on the pages, and as I go, I think of more activities and ways to do things.
As with the last sets there will be at least 4 pages of activities, make a cover and a back page and you have a small book.
I will be including SVG files for those who have cutting machines but these pages are not designed with 4×4 hoop in mind.
Some of the activities are:
Windmill that turns
a tractor letting off steam
fruit to snap and match to the correct trees
a pocket tractor to put the farm animals into
and a couple of extra activities that I am yet to finalise
A barn with opening doors,
5 little ducks and Mother duck too, to play at the pond
And I am sure lots of others too.
Please bare in mind, these pages aren’t finished and still have a lot of work to do on them.
Well I have finished stitching page 1 of the Kitchen page and am very pleased with it.
I still have to stitch the felties that are used to match shapes and to be used on the kitchen bench as quiet play.
This page is an 8×8 page, however, most components can be stitched in a 4×4 hoop, along with SVG files that can be used with cutting machines or trace the outlines cut and stitch them with a standard sewing machine.
My latest project before the kids come for Christmas. I am working on a series of quiet book pages, and these ones are – in the home, and here are the first 2 pages – The laundry room. The door to the washing machine and dryer open, so washing can be put inside, the trough cabinet doors open, the washing basket is 3D so washing can be put in that as well, the water from the tap has texture the window can be changed from night to day.I am working on a folding ironing board and another iron to use on the ironing board, there will be a vacuum to plug into the wall using kam snaps, and some washing to hang on the line on the next couple of pages. As with all R&D projects, things change as I am working on it, the clock now has a face to tell time, a couple of other little items can be stitched to fill in some gaps.
This week I have been working with a very talented lady who makes quiet books in German and English, Claudia Winkler.
This project is an interactive book with 10 pages and lots of activities to play and learn.
Claudia has allowed me to re produce her book for machine embroidery. However, due to hoop size, the book I will be creating will be slightly smaller to fit an 8×8 hoop.
With this book Teddy checks in at the airport, goes through security, passport control, visits the pilot in the cockpit, sit with Teddy in his seat on the plane while he reads his book, looks out the window from the plan to see the runway an flight tower, puts his eye mask on and when he gets off the plan, collects his luggage from the baggage claim.
This is an exciting project for me to work on, some pages have 2 and more hoopings to complete a page, so far there 23 hoopings
Check out Claudia’s page, link below and ride along with Teddy. Currently, the instructions are only in German, however, when I have finished digitising the files, test stitched them out I will be assisting Claudia with an English translation and SVG files. There will be SVG files to suit an 8×8 and 8×10 book.
ITH (In the hoop) machine embroidery medical themed quiet book for kids, the pages are interactive and will hopefully help kids learn and help associate with some medical procedures. The pages also help with fine motor skills and pretend play.
Doctors, scrub nurse, kids in plaster casts and MRI machine coming this weekend the files will be 4×4 compatible,
The doctors, nurses and kids in plaster (4×4 pictured) come in both 4×4 and 8×8 hoop.
The MRI machine is stitched in an 8×8 hoop and will come with SVG files for cutting machines so the page can be created on a standard sewing machine.
Skeleton, doctors office, oxygen mask, IV stand, wheelchair and more coming soon.
Thanks to Cathie Peters for test stitching these little guys out for me.
Finally getting back into sewing again after a couple of weeks being under the weather, and my machine decides to play up.
I am working on a countdown to Christmas hanger, a little like an advent calendar without the lollies and goodies.
Unfortunately, when stitching out sometimes, you have to change the process or design, in this case, I wanted to be able to use velcro to add the numbers for counting and the additional felties for the corner of the countdown.
I am also using the felties that I am making for the conical Christmas tree.
I love being able to multi purpose things and I thought this was a brilliant way of doing that.
The top page will be the page that has the numbers added to it along with a feltie to be changed each day.
This is just a few of the felties I have worked on.
