R & D Friday 29th March

R&D Friday
I know I haven’t quite finished the pirate pages yet, but I just had to get started on the farm pages.

It’s funny how my brain works, I can leave something for a bit, and then get more great ideas for activities and pages, so I have left 2 of the pirate pages for a few days, I am sure more inspiration will come.

Farm pages
I have started working on the pages, and as I go, I think of more activities and ways to do things.

As with the last sets there will be at least 4 pages of activities, make a cover and a back page and you have a small book.
I will be including SVG files for those who have cutting machines but these pages are not designed with 4×4 hoop in mind.
Some of the activities are:
Windmill that turns
a tractor letting off steam
fruit to snap and match to the correct trees
a pocket tractor to put the farm animals into
and a couple of extra activities that I am yet to finalise
A barn with opening doors,
pulling pitchfork
5 little ducks and Mother duck too, to play at the pond
And I am sure lots of others too.

Please bare in mind, these pages aren’t finished and still have a lot of work to do on them.

New and exciting quiet book

Teddies flight

This week I have been working with a very talented lady who makes quiet books in German and English, Claudia Winkler.
This project is an interactive book with 10 pages and lots of activities to play and learn.

Teddy’s flight

Claudia has allowed me to re produce her book for machine embroidery. However, due to hoop size, the book I will be creating will be slightly smaller to fit an 8×8 hoop.

With this book Teddy checks in at the airport, goes through security, passport control, visits the pilot in the cockpit, sit with Teddy in his seat on the plane while he reads his book, looks out the window from the plan to see the runway an flight tower, puts his eye mask on and when he gets off the plan, collects his luggage from the baggage claim.

This is an exciting project for me to work on, some pages have 2 and more hoopings to complete a page, so far  there 23 hoopings

Check out Claudia’s page, link below and ride along with Teddy. Currently, the instructions are only in German, however, when I have finished digitising the files, test stitched them out I will be assisting Claudia with an English translation and SVG files. There will be SVG files to suit an 8×8 and 8×10 book.

Play oxygen mask for quiet book - ITHWL

R&D Friday,

Play Oxygen mask.

Unfortunately, not everything goes to plan when designing and stitching out designs.

Today’s little exercise has had me back and forth to the computer and the machine several times already.

Something that works perfectly in my mind and on the screen, doesn’t necessarily work on the machine.

I will work it out, I just have to change it up bit.

Coming up with ideas for your quiet books

Some of the most common questions people ask when looking to start making quiet books, is where do you get your ideas, where do I start and how do I do…….

Some of the best places to get inspiration, tutorials, advice, templates are YouTube, Pinterest, and Facebook.

Pinterest has loads of photos, and inspiration, they all look fantastic, but are they easy to make, especially for the people who have never sewn before or made templates, so the next step would be to go to YouTube.

I am an admin of a quiet book group on Facebook Quiet Book hints, tips I ideas where we offer assistance with anything to do with quiet books. We have so many generous and talented ladies in our group who all love to show their craft and help others without asking anything in return.

Irina Sorokina, one our most inspiring members, has a YouTube channel that inspires, offers fantastic instructions and templates.
